This four-story steel and glass monumental stair rises dramatically through the center atrium of the Asia Society’s headquarters building in New York City.
It is built of painted steel and blue glass treads, with curved steel and crystal glass handrails.
The project’s architects, Voorsanger and Associates, intended for the stairway to draw people up through the three levels, hopefully creating “an enthralling experience.”
The transparency of the stairs’ support structure allows natural light from the third level to infuse the atrium all the way down to the lobby entrance floor.
The tendency of a high-gloss paint finish to reveal the tiniest imperfections required that Post Road Iron Works’ fabricators to hold to a very high standard of perfection and craftsmanship, with careful attention paid to the smallest details.
