This ten-foot wide stair dominates the USB Headquarters building in Stamford, Connecticut.
Open to the surrounding atrium, it rises full exposed from the ground floor to the fifth floor.
Made from carbon steel, the stair weighs over 45 tons. It was fabricated in four pieces and rolled into position on a custom dolly with aircraft tires, and hoisted into place with a series of chain falls.
The stair is suspended on its right side from 1†6 x 19 galvanized wire ropes with stainless steel clevises and turnbuckles, and on its left side it is cantilevered off of walkways.
